STREET NAMING
Kingswood Town Council has agreed, when consulted by South Gloucestershire Council at the request of the developer, to name any future street names in Kingswood from the names on the Town War Memorial. This idea gained momentum in the 80th anniversary year of the D-day landings, when the council’s first request was made and has been named the Bringing Our Boys Home project. Extensive research was undertaken and a short list of six names were initially drawn up at a Planning Committee meeting on 23 July 2024:
Clark, Osborne, Burgess, Olds, Wilmott and Denning.
The developer selected Osborne, and thus the first street to be named will be Osborne Close.
Osborne Close is named after Private Wilfred Osborne who died on 12th February 1942, aged 25, defending Singapore and is buried in Kranji War Cemetery, Singapore.
